No "Throw In" Plating
Q. I am checking an aerospace part with chrome plating. My drawing states
no throw in plating allowed. What is the definition of throw in plating?
A. "Throw in", "no throw in", refers to the flashing of chrome beyond a specified boundary. It can mean the same as "shade out", "run out" or "fade-out". A defined space or area along the edge of the chrome plated area. "No throw in" implies that no chrome is allowed beyond a certain point, most probably the interior of a hole, a recess, a radius or a cavity. These specific areas are usually accompanied by dimensions and other information as prescribed by the product designer.
